Māori Language Week, 2026
Māori Language Week 2026 is Monday, 14 September to Sunday, 20 September. To acknowledge Māori Language Week, it is intended that for the Vigil Mass on 19 September and for the Sunday Mass on 20 September, the Lord’s Prayer will be recited entirely in Te Reo Māori.
We have in recent years done a Māori version of the Lord’s Prayer as a Call and Response. In other words the call has been in Te Reo Māori and the response has been in English.
This year we are going to do the entire prayer together in Te Reo Māori only. The entire prayer in Te Reo Māori will be on the screen. A recorded spoken version of the prayer will – in Te Reo Māori – will be played for guidance. We ask that you do your best to recite the prayer in Te Reo Māori. We understand that many people will find this difficult. We ask only that you do the best you are able. To help you prepare for this we have put onto the St Theresa’s website a recording of the background Te Reo version of the prayer to help you understand what you will hear and what you are asked to follow. To assist you we include below the prayer in both languages.

Homai ki a mātou āianei he taro mā mātou mō tēnei ra. Whakakāhoretia ō mātou hara, me mātou e whakakore nei i ngā hara o te hunga e hara ana ki a mātou. Kaua mātou e tukua kia whakawaia, engari whakaorangia mātou i te kino.
The Lord’s Prayer in English
Our Father who art heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.
